The Map is the latest release from David Murrow, and is essentially divided into two sections: a fable illustrating the principles Murrow is trying to teach, and a much more didactic section in which he systematically lays out his pathway to masculinity.
The fable tells the story of David Murrow as he seeks out a mysterious map that supposedly leads to a long lost document that chronicles the transformation of millions of men from the earliest followers of Jesus until the present day. The main character then embarks on a journey that would lead him to a monastery in Greece where he meets a mysterious monk who divulges the secret pathway to becoming a man of God.
I was excited to read this follow up title from the author that brought us Why Men Hate Going to Church, but was disappointed that the author diverged from his previous style of writing which included hard facts discovered from research.
The fable was interesting and held my attention, but it pales in comparison to the captivating scripts of some of the best fiction writers such as C.S. Lewis or even Dan Brown. All in all, I found the theology weak, and I left the book feeling like David Murrow was looking for a map where one was never intended.
