Summer Reading List

OK, so I find it interesting that I never liked reading until after I graduated from school. Now I can't walk into a bookstore or browse Amazon.com without buying something. That having been said, I thought I would fill you all in on what I'm reading this summer:

I love this book, can't put it down. How else would I know that the only two mammals to lay eggs were the Platypus and the Echidna?
2) Radical: Taking Back Your Faith From the American Dream by David Platt
I wish he used different terminology other than "American dream." Nonetheless, I understand the premise and have enjoyed the book so far. Plus, the fact that Platt is a little younger than me and pastoring a megachurch and writing books makes me feel really good about myself.... really....
Great title, and I sure hate it when God doesn't show up, I'm really hoping that this will tell me what to do. Maybe if God doesn't show up, Pete Wilson will.
Maybe this will help me understand why you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. Had a woman come into my office who can't read or write. I set her up with literacy training in our town. She didn't show up for any of her lessons. I don't understand.
I don't know why I bought this book, other than it had duct tape on the cover, and I'm a sucker for duct tape.
6) Stuff Christians Like by Jonathan Acuff
I actually went to college with Jon. This book is so true it makes me a bit uncomfortable.
7) The Hole in our Gospel by Richard Stearns
This book is written by the guy in charge of World Vision and is my current BookSneeze choice. Perhaps we can fix this hole with the duct tape that Dan Heath is talking about in number 5?

I figure this is a good place to start.

I attended a training on Framework for Understanding Poverty. It was the most helpful resource I found in my 3 years of teaching in Southwest Philly. I hope you find it useful.
My guess about your friend who didn't show for lessons: transportation or childcare fell through and prepaid cell phone minutes ran out.
